The Best Hawaiian Soil Mix
Hawaii does have access to many of my favorite soil mix elements, however, at a cost. So, I developed this mix specifically for folks living in Hawaii exposed to our economically limited choices. While it does not provide a 5-star dining experience for your plants, it adequately covers all their needs and desires in order to grow into large healthy specimens.
1 Bag of Scott's Brand Topsoil Available from City Mill and Home Depot for around $4 for a .75 cubic foot bag |

2 Gallons of Worm Castings I buy the G&B Organics brand in 20 quart bags wholesale from Simplot, however any brand should suffice. | |
2 Gallons of Sunshine #4 Mix I also get the Sunshine #4 mix wholesale from Simplot. This product is largely available at most grow stores and nurseries. | |
1/2 Cup Nitrogen Rich Bat Guano You can buy the guano at most hydroponics grow shops in Hawaii or online. |

1/4 Cup "Rock Phos" You can buy the phosphoros rich pulverized cave rock extract at most hydroponics grow shops in Hawaii or online. | |
1/4 Cup Seabird Guano You can buy seabird guano at most garden stores, hydroponics grow shops in Hawaii or online. | |
1/3 cup Dolomite Lime
I suggest buying the pulverized dolomite lime online (I used Amazon); I could not find this in Hawaii. |
This will produce approximately 10 gallons of soil blend. You can increase the fertilizer ingredients for older plants and remove them if using the blend to start seeds or seedlings.
