Indoors vs Outdoors Growing
Indoor Pros - faster growth, more control, better quality product
Indoor Cons - Price of equipment, cost of nutrients, electrical expense, less yield
Outdoor Pros - Free light, Simplicity, higher yields
Outdoor Cons - Insects, weather, lower quality end product
In Hawaii the cost of electricity is far higher than anywhere on the mainland. One large (600W-1000W) halide setup can run upwards of $600-$800 per month. |
Without producing your own electricity, the cost of growing your own indoors will far exceed what you will pay at the dispensary. Thus any successful indoor setup in Hawaii requires a pretty extensive solar setup, complete with battery bank. Even with such a setup, you'll still need to supplement with power from the grid.
As many obstacles as Hawaii throws at one from the perspective of setting up an indoor artificially lighted growing system, the Islands gift massive advantages should one decide to grow under the Hawaiian sun.
You'll still need to construct a relatively small closet or tent with inexpensive "blue spectrum" light (usually fluorescent) to produce clones and to extend the light cycle of those clones during nighttime hours until they are big enough to be flowered. How large you want your end plants will determine the size of this "vegging" closet or tent.
